Wild can choose the future of Marco Rossi – Hockey Writer – Minnesota Wild
Just when most Minnesota wild fans thought the offseason would be quiet until the start of free agents on July 1, Marco Rossi’s name appeared on the trade committee of almost every NHL team. With his season, many wild fans were surprised to see his name as a trade offer, but track and field’s Michael Russo, along with Anthony Lapanta, once said on his podcast “The Worst Seat in the Home” that Rossi and his agent worked to agree to the agreement with the field contract.
In Rossi’s exit interview, when asked about staying in the wild saying he wasn’t sure he was staying or going, his tone and body language made him seem to be exploring other options rather than leaving them. After finishing fourth in the playoffs, it was obvious that he was unhappy and hesitant to exit the interview and it would be fun to see what would happen. In this article, we will look at whether the wild should trade him or try to sign him from the start of the deal.
Rosie needs a deal
While Rossi’s season was great, and at first I thought it was crazy to see his expression in the exit interview, he wasn’t excited about the opportunity to stay. It is never a good thing to have a player who is not satisfied with staying, and if the wilderness doesn’t want to be empty-handed by Rossi, they need to make a trade.
He is a restricted free agent, which means that if he does not agree to a deal with the field and field by July 1, he can see offers from other teams. The wild can choose to match one of them and sign Rossi in the same number, or they can deny the offer, have Rossi sign with another team, and cancel the draft pick. However, this will only happen if the wild cannot trade him before July 1.
So why is the wild trying to trade him instead of accepting a draft pick? Because they currently need players and don’t have time to wait for their picks to finally mature. They are lucky enough to prepare for the NHL almost immediately, but this is rare. The field is just one or two pieces away from the first round, trying to run for it, but that means they need players right now, which means trade or free agents, not draft picks.

At this point, it is extremely unlikely, but in their exit from the interview, general manager Bill Guerin did show that he would try to sign Rossi. The bigger question is, should they try to keep him? He has made great progress not only this season but the past few. In his first part of the field, he played 19 games with just 1 point, and then in the offseason, he stayed in Minnesota to play and returned with a new player. He participated in all 82 games and scored 40 points.
This season, he also played in all 82 games but recorded 60 points, including 24 goals. He has continued to improve his game every season since joining the NHL, and although he does struggle a bit in the playoffs, he still scored three points, including two goals in the fourth line. He did something to influence the roster, and it was only his second season in the wild.
His biggest uptick from the score touch is also his age. He is only 23 years old and will be 24 when the next season starts. He had a lot of time to keep improving his game, and although he was a little nervous with negotiations at the beginning, the wild might have done the job if they could cow money.
The final decision of the wilderness
After seeing why the wild should trade Rossi or sign him, it’s time to make a practical decision on what they should do. The chance to sign him doesn’t look promising and it’s been a while, so they should take action to trade him instead of waiting for a draft pick. They need to have someone who can go straight into the roster and make a difference, and hopefully this will be a center.

Many teams expressed interest in Rossi and at least had to have a quote to attract Jilin. It would be fun to see what to do in the wild when Rossi chooses to do, but at least they have a lot of options to move forward.
