Sabers dig deep, beat Wilder 3-2 in shootout – Hockey Writers –

On Saturday night, November 29, the Minnesota Wild hosted the Buffalo Sabers to complete a back-to-back homestand. The Minnesota Wild’s injured list has been shortened again after Vladimir Tarasenko missed the previous seven games. They are still without Marcus Foligno, Marco Rossi and Vinnie Hinostroza. The Sabers were without Justin Danforth, Michael Kesselin, Jiri Kulic and Josh Norris due to injuries.

Filip Gustavsson scored for the Wild and Colton Ellis scored for the Sabers. The game started with the Wild dominant, but the Sabers fought back to tie the game twice and force overtime. After a goalless draw in overtime, the game entered a penalty shootout, with the Sabers winning 3-2. This brings the Wild’s record to 14-7-5 and the Sabers’ record to 10-11-4.

The Wild got the game started in the opening half with a goal from Kirill Kaprizov. Mats Zuccarello and Danila Yurov assisted him to make it 1-0. The Sabers responded shortly after with a goal from Baker Marensteen. Payton Krebs and Josh Dunn assisted to make the score 1-1. The Wild answered a few minutes later with an unassisted goal from Matt Boldy to make it 2-1. It was the final goal of the quarter and the Wild took the lead heading into the second quarter.

Although both sides played a somewhat stalemate, the second quarter was scoreless and the Wild took the lead heading into the final quarter. The Sabers tied the game early in the third period when Zuccarello accidentally tossed the puck into his own net after trying to catch the puck as it bounced off the glass behind the net. Josh Doan scored and Alex Tuch and Noah Östlund had assists to make it 2-2.

Neither team scored before the end of the game, so it entered overtime. Neither team scored and it entered a penalty shootout. The Sabers scored three goals and the Wild scored two to win 3-2.

This… Two home games are over for the Wild, who will now begin December with four games in the Northwest. Their first game will be against the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday, December 2nd. The Sabers return home to face the Winnipeg Jets on Monday, December 1st.
