Insiders report that King’s Demar Derozan can be used as a trading asset in 25-26

Last season, the Sacramento Kings ended the game with a 40-42 record. After 31 games in 2024-25, the team started head coach Mike Brown with a 13-18 start. He is now the head coach of the New York Knicks.
For the Kings, the 2025 offseason is relatively quiet. Although the offseason has left fans speculation, the 2025-26 season may be clearer. NBA insider Brett Sigel reported that the Kings could use DeMar DeRozan as a trading asset next season. The veteran SF played for one season in Sacramento. Insiders say DeRozan is chopping the block next year’s trade deadline.

In the three team trades in the 2024 offseason, the Bulls sent Demar DeRozan to the Kings. As part of the deal, Sacramento signed a three-year, $74 million contract. Last season, Derozan played 77 of 82 games for the Kings. He averaged 22.2 points, 3.9 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game. The 2025-26 season will be Derozan’s 17th season in the NBA.
During the offseason, the Kings did not take much action. An insider said this is because the team has been waiting until the 2025-26 transaction deadline. Brett Sigel reports that Sacramento can use Demar DeRozan as a trading asset by next year’s deadline. With DeRozan producing at this stage of his career, the King could earn a reliable return for the 36-year-old.

At present, this is all Brett Sigel’s guess. What if the Kings start the Heat this season and are among the top three seeds on the trade deadline? Do they still use DeMar DeRozan as a trading asset? The answer may be no. In addition, DeMar DeRozan is a player that the Kings attaches great importance to. They signed him last offseason and gave him a new contract before he played a game for the team.
Brett Sigel also mentioned Malik Monk as a player who can be used as an asset next season. It is reported that this offseason, the team is shopping for Makil Monk. NBA insider Marc Stein reported that the Kings have gotten rid of trade talks. Currently, the team is committed to DeMar DeRozan and Malik Monk starting at 2025-26. If the season starts spinning down, Sacramento expects to change.
