Insider Report Devin Booker Will Be Suns Full-time Starting PG, ’25 -26

Prior to the 2025-26 season, Phoenix Suns made a slight reset. During the offseason, the team split the way with Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal, which greatly changed the trajectory.
Phoenix’s most famous offseason is Rockets’ SG Jalen Green. He was obtained through the Kevin Durant trade. Devin Booker will take things into his own hands due to lack of depth in PG. Suns insider John Gambadoro reported that Booker will be Phoenix’s full-time PG next season. The team thinks Booker is ready to handle the role.

In the 2024-25 season, the Suns have Tyus Jones on their roster. He is the team’s starting PG, which allows Devin Booker to play his natural position. Despite this, Booker led the team last season with 7.1 assists per game. This is a new personal best for the franchise’s all-time leading scorer. Booker looked comfortable as a playmaker last season, but still averaged 25.6 points per game.
Phoenix lost Jones to the Magic in the offseason in free agent magic. That’s why Suns Insider Josh Gambadoro pointed out that Booker will be the first PG in 2025-26. Early in his career, Booker averaged about four assists per game. The 28-year-old has taken a step in entertainment over the past two seasons.

In 2023-24, he averaged 6.9 assists and a career-high 7.1 per game in 2024-25 years. One might say that if Booker was a starter PG, his scoring output would be reduced. However, there is evidence of other circumstances. Last season, Hawks’ Trae Young averaged 11.6 assists with a league-leading 24.2 points per game. The output of this score revolves around Booker’s career average.
In addition, the Pistons averaged 26.1 points and 9.2 assists per game last season. Devin Booker’s ability to average nearly 10 assists per game while maintaining his career average score. During the offseason, the Suns signed free agent Jared Butler as a backup PG. Most importantly, the team re-signed Collin Gillespie’s standard contract. Butler and Gillespie will fall behind Devin Booker’s PG depth next season.
