Indian Wells: Alexander Zverev completes Masters 1000 semi-finals, joins ‘Big Four’

Alexander Zverev says it feels “very special” to become the fifth player to reach the semi-finals of all nine ATP Masters 1000 events and join elite company after reaching the semi-finals at Indian Wells.
The German advanced to the semi-finals of the California Championships for the first time with a confident 6-2 6-3 victory over Frenchman Arthur Fils.
By completing his 1,000th Masters semifinal match, Zverev joins a club dominated by tennis’ “Big Four” — Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray.
“Being one of the five players in history to do that is very special,” Zverev said.
“Absolutely, yeah, it’s something I’m very proud of.”
Zverev has won five of nine Masters 1000 events but has never won a Grand Slam title despite reaching three Grand Slam finals.
If the fourth seed wants to move closer to the Indian Wells trophy, he must end his five-game losing streak against world No. 2 Sinner.
Late on Thursday, defending Wimbledon champion Sinner sealed her spot in the semi-finals with a 6-1 6-2 victory over American Tennant in 66 minutes.
The world number two, who has never won in Indian Wells, is seeking his first title in 2026 after a semi-final exit at the Australian Open and a quarter-final loss at the Qatar Open last month.
