Golf Business News – Mars Hall appoints new resort director before reopening

Experienced hotel leader Andy Roger has been appointed resort director at Mar Hall Golf and Spa Resort in Glasgow.
Originally from Glasgow, Roger will oversee the resort’s highly anticipated reopening this spring, following a £20m renovation at the Erskine site. With decades of experience in rebooting, repositioning and leading heritage hotels and resorts, he has enough space to lead Hall of Mars into the next phase of IT development.
“I’m happy to start this new chapter with Hall of Mars,” Roger said. “Going back to a more intimate resort setting was a welcome turn – which brought me back to my early roles focusing on a real, personal connection with the team and our team and our guests. MarHall has an incredible advantage as a 240-acre country estate, close to Glasgow and as a gateway to the Highlands, I look forward to part of our coming years and I look forward to part of it.
Roger brings extensive experience among leading hotel brands, including senior management positions at Malmaison and Hotel du Vin. In 2013, he joined Cameron House as Operations Director and later a resort director, and over more than a decade, leading a team of 600 employees through two ownership changes, major renovations and expansions. Under his leadership, Cameron House has gained national and global recognition, winning the 5 AA Red Stars in its history for the first time.
His most recent position was CEO at Lost Shore Surf Resort near Edinburgh, where he began the world's first inland surf resort in November.
The renovation of Mar Hall comes after Dutco Group acquired the property in 20024, the resort joins the company's hotel portfolio in Dubai, Maldives, Seychelles and Edinburgh. The £15 million renovation is led by investment and asset management company Align Partners.
The renovation will bring a complete transformation of the resort’s 74 rooms (including three large suites and eight teenagers suites) as well as all public places including the main entrance and reception, member lounge, long gallery, bar, bar, restaurant and private events. New additions to the property will include a private cinema for 24 people, a game room and a billiards room.
Chris King, managing director of Align Partners, said: “Andy is an outstanding hotel leader who understands the power of people, purpose and location. His journey in resort management speaks for himself, but it’s his passion for mentoring talents and creating a great guest experience that really sets him apart. We’re delighted to welcome him to the Mar Mar Hall team.”
