“I never had a chance to be an NBA star,” said Jonathan Kuminga of the Warriors.

Last season, the Warriors scored 48-34 and played the playoffs in the game. As the Seventh Seed, Golden State beat the #2 Seed Rockets in seven games.
In the second round, the Warriors lost to the Timberwolves in five games. During the offseason, a Warriors player is making the future of his career a priority. Jonathan Kuminga is a restricted free agent until the 2025-26 season. “I never had a chance to be an NBA star,” Kubinga said in a conversation with sports energy Anthony Slater. “It sounds like the 22-year-old wants to part ways with the Warriors.
Will Jonathan Kuminga play for the Warriors next season?
Jonathan Kuminga says he never had a chance to prove himself
“I feel like I’m at the point where I have to be my priority, just being one of the people a team depends on. To be an All-Star. Many times. To be great. … No matter where I’m going, I won’t… pic.twitter.com/kr1fgayzah

In the seventh pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, the Warriors chose Jonathan Kuminga from G League Ignite. As a rookie, Kumingga competed in 70 games and started 12 games for Golden State. In the 2022 playoffs, Kuminga played 16 games and played three games. Golden State won the championship, and Kubinga became the champion in his first season. Young PF takes the offense at the end of the 2022-23 campaign.
Andrew Wiggins missed the final two months of the season, and Kuminga made the most of his game time. When Wiggins was away, Kuminga averaged 14.2 points on 57% of the field goal percentage. Jonathan Kuminga’s game time disappeared after Wiggins returned to the roster. In 2023-24, Jonathan Kuminga averaged a career-high 16.1 points and scored 46 starts for the Warriors. Unfortunately, Cushinga suffered an ankle sprain last season and missed 31 games.
By the time he returned, the Warriors had sold it to Jimmy Butler. Head coach Steve Kerr admits it’s hard to play Butler and Kubinga at the same time. Jimmy Butler averages over 30 minutes per game. The game time left for Kuminga is limited. That’s why the 22-year-old plans to test restricted free agents this summer.
Jonathan Kuminga wants to play on a team that plays a consistent role. This was not the case in his four seasons with the Warriors. Recently, Kumingga spoke with Anthony Slater of Track and Field. “I never had a chance to be an NBA star,” said Golden State’s PF. He told Slater that he wanted to be an All-Star multiple times and that the team could rely on. Will the Warriors or another team be with another team in 2025-26?
