Madrid Open: Defending champion Iga Swiatek lasts 16

World No. 2 Iga Swiatek won eight straight wins when she beat Linda Noskova to reach the final 16.
The defending champion and 2023 finalist – still chasing his first champion – won the match 6-4 6-2 against the Czech opponent, who won the famous defeat at the 2024 Australian Open.
The 23-year-old from Poland had to dig deeper to beat Spain's teenager Alexandra Eala in the last round of the Philippines.
But this time she looked more fluent when she passed through a period of time in an hour and 17 minutes.
Her next challenge will be the first match with Russia’s No. 13 seed Diana Shnaider, who did not give up the match in his encounter with Latvia’s Anastasija Sevastova.
American duo Coco Gauff and Madison Keys also benefited from straightforward wins.
The fourth seed Gauff beat fellow countryman Ann Li 6-2 6-3, while the Australian Open Championship Key for the fifth seed is the 7-5 7-6 (7-3), winning the game beyond Russia's 30th seed Anna Kalinskaya.
