Rocket Classic in 2025 has been keeping a low profile.
After a brutal range including the 2025 Memorial Championships and the U.S. Open, the PGA Tour has returned to its low score roots, with players receiving birdies at the Detroit Golf Club.
Min Woo Lee broke the course record in the first round, but a few hours later Kevin Roy and Aldrich Potgieter beat that number. One day later, Jake Knapp defeated the mark.
All of this adds up to a list that packs the rankings, bringing Potgieter into Sunday’s final round with a two-stroke lead. But the rookie knows that the person who lowers again on the last day will be someone who leaves Motor City with a trophy and a $1.728 million championship check.
Several famous names began Sunday within the distance of Potgieter, including Collin Morikawa, Jake Knapp, Chris Kirk and Max Greyserman.
Both Kirk and Greyserman caught Potgieter midway on Sunday, with three having a chance to win the game on the 18th hole. However, all three missed the opportunity to send the 2025 Rocket Classic to the playoffs.
Kirk missed a nine-foot birdie putt on the first playoff hole. On the second playoff hole, Greyserman missed a 10-foot birdie putt to win the championship. Kirk missed a three-foot player on the second playoff hole to end his game hopes.
The playoffs continued until the fifth playoff hole, when Potgieter rolled his first PGA Tour in a 17-foot birdie putt.
