Jannik Sinner has a chance to regain the world number one spot from Carlos Alcaraz at this week’s Rolex Paris Masters.

Alcaraz took that spot from his rival after winning the U.S. Open and has held it ever since. The Italian can return the favor at the final ATP Masters 1000 event of the season… at least for now.

Sinner must win the title to have any chance of returning to No. 1 in the world next Monday. If the 24-year-old lifts the trophy and Alcaraz fails to reach the semi-finals, the top spot will change hands.

If Sinner doesn’t win his first Masters 1000 title of the season, he has no chance of returning to No. 1. Alcaraz can guarantee that he retains first place by advancing to the semifinals.

No matter what happens this week, Alcaraz remains firmly in control of the battle for the year-end ATP No. 1 spot awarded by PIF Honors. The Spaniard currently leads the PIF ATP Turin Live event with 2,040 points, a barometer of the year-end battle for the top spot.

Sinner’s first opponent in France will be Zizou Bergès, who must improve to within 1,750 points at the end of the Rolex Paris Masters to have a chance of finishing first for the second time at the end of the year. There are ATP 250 events in Athens and Metz, where Alcaraz and Sinner are yet to take part, followed by the Nitto ATP Finals, where the undefeated winner will receive 1,500 points.

Alcaraz will begin his campaign on Tuesday when he takes on Cameron Norrie in the second round.
