From the perfect Marrakech wedding in Marrakech two weeks ago to his way back to the Rolex Shanghai Masters, Felix Auger-Aliassime knew something had to be given.
“Honeymoon? This is our honeymoon, Shanghai honeymoon,” the Canadian joked at China’s Atptour.com this week, and his wife Nina joined him.
“We’re together, maybe there’ll be a honeymoon later this year. But, for now, obviously I have to go back to the game and get back to work…but we’re still having a great time together.”
At the PIF ATP live match to 10th place in Turin, Auger-Aliassime was only one place outside the Nitto ATP final eight-man batsman, and ranked ninth for the year due to injuries. Married to Nina on September 20, the 25-year-old will be in his first game since the U.S. Open semifinals this week.
Felix, who recalled the 120-person wedding at the Selman Marrakech Hotel in the home of Nina’s father’s Morocco, said the memorable day was perfect.
“Everything is so positive… In a wedding, a lot of things can go wrong, but it does well and the highlight of the night may be the speech.”
“There is always a part of the time during dinner where family and friends give speeches, my mom, Nina’s sister, her dad, they all give speeches, and it’s the most beautiful and touching moment because you don’t talk to each other like that, or you don’t talk that deeply. So that’s really our highlight.”

Nina is an excellent equestrian who ensures that the horses on the wedding day and guests drink cocktails between horses.
“She knew my world from the beginning, and that helped our relationship because she understood my sacrifice on the road,” Felix said. “She saw her father, who had been an equestrian all his life, had experienced similar sacrifices.
“But our sports are very different. When I tell her, we always laugh: ‘I don’t do horses, I run’. But I think technically you have to have similarities in both sports. In both sports it’s a very technical sport and it’s a very technical sport in equestrian sport and the profits of jumping are small and the performance is small. So you also need to be very clean, technically clean.”
According to Infosys ATP Win/Loss Index, Auger-Aliassime needs to win a victory in Shanghai to reach the 250 professional winner milestone. He is 34-19 years old since his 60-game victory debuted in the Nitto ATP final since the breakout season in 2022.
After experiencing the charm of a famous event, he longs to taste it again.
“I’m very motivated [to qualify],” he said. “I started the year and then in a few months it was even harder in the spring, but I had a great summer in the United States. There are always ups and downs, but it has been a positive year so far. So if I could push my place in Turin last time next month, it would be so beautiful. But I’m not in there right now, so I need to kick some people out. I need to play some good tennis and get a lot of wins. ”
In the first five weeks of the season, Auger-Aliassim burst out with the titles of Adelaide and Montpellier this year. The Dubai finals made him return to the top 20 in the PIF ATP rankings.
But in Roland Garros’ first four ATP Masters, he dropped to Matteo Arnaldi in the first round and saw him losing momentum.

After some subtle reflow, he reached the Cincinnati Open quarterfinals and was caught by Jannik Sinner, who was second only to two games. But he made it to the U.S. Open semifinal, where he toes with the sinner with four competitive four, making him a debate in Turin.
“They aren’t the big changes I’ve made, just a few things that need to be adjusted. I mean, I think my service improves throughout the year and then is more tactically aware, too,” he said. “I don’t think I’m playing the right role in clay, or I don’t really believe in my game plan, otherwise I’m too suspicious of myself.”
“But then I went back to the tough court and although it wasn’t perfect, I was improving, improving, until the United States opened up. So hopefully I can keep going.”
Reflecting on his 6-1, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 defeat in New York, Auger-Aliassime said: “This is a physical struggle with the two of us sometimes struggling with each other, mentally and mentally showing the smallest weakness for your opponent. He shows the biggest weakness. He stands out. But for me, this is what I show better in the world, and it is a part of him in the world. Encouragement.”
When Auger-Aliassime qualifies for Turin in 2022, it was behind the October hat-trick: Fiorentina, Antwerp and Basel, he successfully defended the title the following year.
The Canadian hopes to have four of his seven career titles, and he hopes to close the 630-point gap with No. 8 Lorenzo Musetti, who is motivated to make his debut on the ground.
Olympiad – Aliassime kicked off his campaign in the sea against Alejandro Tabilo on Saturday.
