The Argentine, competing in the Buenos Aires main draw for the fifth consecutive time, defeated Italian qualifier Andrea Pellegrino 6-3, 6-4.
“It was an unbelievable game. Playing in Buenos Aires in front of my people is very special,” he said. “I have a different energy when I play here and I’m really happy to get my first win. I’m looking forward to a long week here.
In his first Lexus ATP match against Pellegrino, Echeverri showed a dominant serving performance. According to Infosys ATP statistics, he blasted seven aces and won 85% of his first serve points (29/34) in one hour and 38 minutes.
