Grizzlies’ Brandon Clark expected to return in 6-9 weeks

Memphis Grizzlies forward Brandon Clark is “progressing well” in his recovery after undergoing arthroscopic surgery to treat synovitis in his right knee, the Grizzlies announced Tuesday.

Brandon Clarke could return at the end of December

The Grizzlies added in a news release that Clark has been cleared to begin participating in basketball activities and is expected to resume play in approximately six to nine weeks.

Clark, 29, suffered a sprained PCL in his right knee that cut his 2024-25 season short and underwent surgery on his right knee in September. The 29-year-old has not played a game since March 19.

Based on the timeline provided, Clark likely won’t return until the end of December. If his recovery process takes nine weeks instead of six, he may not make his season debut until 2026.

The 6-foot-8 wing averaged 8.3 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.0 assists in 64 games (18 starts) last season. He shot 62.1% from the field and 70.1% from the free throw line.

On December 7, 2024, Memphis defeated Boston University 127-121. He scored a season-high 18 points on 9-of-11 shooting (81.8%), plus 8 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals.

Clark will miss the 2023 season with Achilles injury

Clark, a former first-round pick, also suffered a season-ending Achilles tear in March 2023, limiting him to six games (one start) in 2023-24.

According to Spotrac, Clark signed a four-year, $50 million rookie-scale contract extension with Memphis in 2022 and is currently in the third year. His contract includes incentives totaling $2 million.

The Grizzlies also lost second-year center Zach Eddy, who had ankle surgery and was recently assigned to the G-League for workouts.

In 66 games (55 starts) for Memphis last season, Eddie averaged 21.5 minutes per game, 9.2 points, 8.3 rebounds, 1.0 assists, 1.3 blocks, shooting 58% from the field, 34.6% from three-point range, and 70.9% from the free throw line.

According to Basketball Reference, Eddie ranks 17th in rebounds per game, eighth in offensive rebounds (232), sixth in offensive rebounds per game (3.5), and 20th in blocks (85).
