Golf fans could save a fortune on a YouTube TV subscription

How about it this For the “big reorganization”?
On Wednesday morning, YouTube TV announced that it would be launching sports-focused cable TV packages, allowing consumers to cut their cable bills while still receiving the sports programming that is the core of those packages.
According to YouTube, the new plans will be available to customers at a lower price than the company’s current $82.99 “Basic Plan” price, which has not yet been revealed. The sports show will launch in “early 2026” and will provide access to broadcast channels (ABC, CBS, Fox and NBC) and Cable networks that broadcast sports programming (ESPN Network, Fox Sports Network, NBC Sports Network, and Sports/Golf Channel).
The new sports kits will form part of a plan to introduce 10 “type-specific kits” to consumers in the new year. Sports bundles come as sports fans have cheered for years in support of the effort, and consumers have complained for years about what they felt were paying for cable channels they didn’t consume.
The news comes after YouTube TV suffered heavy losses, with the cable provider losing some NFL and college football games and much of its business to its long-running “horse-drawn carriage war” with ESPN and Disney. With the battle over, YouTube TV has vowed to work hard to win back the trust of its customers, and specific types of packages appear to be the first efforts to achieve those goals.
The economics of cable TV have long made “bundling” for sports a difficult proposition. Sports networks like ESPN spend a fortune on cable providers like YouTube TV (nearly $10 per customer per month, according to the latest estimates), and ESPN’s Disney owners have been keen to ensure that cable providers include all Disney programming is bundled into one package, making it difficult for providers to steal content from smaller, genre-specific shows.
In many ways, however, the rigidity of the traditional cable structure has contributed to the format’s decline, as more and more viewers continue to “cut the cord” in favor of sports-specific piecemeal solutions that prove to be less expensive than traditional cable bills.
For golf fans, the new YouTube TV bundle provides an all-access pass to golf programming, including coverage of LIV Golf, the PGA Tour and every major championship through agreements with NBC, CBS, ESPN, Golf Channel, USA and Fox.
Here’s good news for TV customers who are “single-session” viewers (in other words, those who only watch sports): The same TV access will be available in the coming months… but at a lower cost to watch.
