Golf Business News – UK turf industry firmly announces retirement

After more than three decades of development, shaping the future of convenience room management, Jayne Leyland, portfolio director of Origin Solutions, announced her retirement.

Her departure marks the end of OAS’s 13-year career at OAS and the end of more than 30 years in the turf and landscaping industry.

Jayne joined Rigby Taylor in 2012, which became OAS in 2021, is the driving force behind some of the company’s most innovative and sustainable product development. Her legacy includes leading the creation of the Carbon4grass seed line, an innovative product that combines outstanding performance with carbon sequestration benefits, recently known as Pro Landscaper’s Best Sustainable Product of the Year in 2024.

Jayne is also the driving force for advancing the development and wider adoption of tetraploid grass seed technology, helping to provide stronger and more resilient intervals with faster establishment and improved stress tolerance.

Jayne is known and respected for his extensive technical knowledge, a customer-centric approach, and a passion for sustainable turf care. She played a vital role in expanding OAS’ research and trial programs to ensure product innovation is based on science and is influenced by industry needs.

Jayne is inducted into the Ground Management Association Hall of Fame

When she was inducted into the Ground Management Association Hall of Fame in 2024, her outstanding contribution to the turf care department was formally recognized, an honor that celebrates lifelong achievements and serves the ground custody career.

Reflecting on his career, Jayne said: “It is an honor to work in such a fast and enthusiastic industry. I love working with clients, colleagues and partners who are deeply concerned about the land they manage and the standards they adhere to. I am very proud of what OAS has achieved and want to see OAS and hope to see OAS continue to grow and grow and grow.”

OAS Managing Director Richard Walton pays tribute to Jayne’s leadership and long-term commitment. He added: “Jayne’s vision and expertise have profoundly shaped our product portfolio and sustainability strategies. Her ability to translate complex science into practical, impactful solutions makes her an invaluable part of our team. Our dedication to the past 13 years and hopes Jayne will perform best in her retirement.”

Jayne’s background in green and agronomics, as well as her early work in Barenbrug, earned widespread respect throughout the convenience and sports turf department. Her influence extends product development to training, educating and mentoring the next generation of turf professionals.

Her departure will be felt throughout the industry, but Jayne left, a stronger and more sustainable way to manage the convenient landscape.
