US Open 2025: Venus Williams says playing in New York will never “get older”

Two-time champion Venus Williams said her love for her “work” was the reason why she returned to the U.S. Open at the age of 45.

Earlier this year, many wondered when the veteran Americans announced their retirement.

Now, when she plays the 11th seed of Czech Republic Karolina Muchova on Monday, she will extend her home grands on the record for the 25th.

“It’s exciting to come back. It won’t get older – it’s even more exciting,” the seven-time major champion said.

Earlier this season, Williams was officially considered an inactive player and did not play for a year.

Then, thanks to training at the Tennis World on Wimbledon, she announced that she was ready to play at the Washington Open.

The former world No. 1 match won her first round as she won her first round in her 16-month debut before winning the match in the second round.

The victory over Peyton Stearns in the United States means Williams is the oldest player in WTA Tour singles in 21 years.

When asked to describe the fun of coming back to have fun, she said, “I love my job. So there is happiness there.”
