Golf Business News – Original Penguin launches 70th anniversary

A division of Perry Ellis International, the original Penguin celebrated a 70-year milestone in the production of its 70th anniversary collection, a fresh and faithful tribute to the brand’s legacy and legendary polo shirts, a bonus that defines the elusive effort of generations.
The special collection reimagines the iconic medieval style of modern men in honor of the rich designs of Munsingwear Archives, both famous for golf legends and cultural icons.
Since its debut in 1955, the original Penguin Polo, created by Munsingwear, represented effortless American maturity and soon became the first choice for athletes and entertainers. Golf legends, such as Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus and Chi Chi Rodriguez, as well as cultural icons including Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby and Bob Hope, embrace the symbol of consolidating the Penguin, a cool, confident American style.

“Seventy years ago, we introduced a shirt that changed the game. Not only for golf, but for the whole American style,” said Oscar Feldenkreis, CEO of Perry Ellis International. “This carefully planned collection is a celebration of this heritage – a tribute to the performers, entertainers, and the everyday creatures that make Pete an idol of the penguin. These timeless works are well thought out to fit in the modern way of life, while being loyal to the penguin as a household name and craft.”
The 70th anniversary collection combines the brand’s legacy with contemporary craftsmanship, offering versatile works that are full of retro-inspired details and modern features.
“For 70 years, Penguin’s Pete has represented not only style, but also confidence, originality and a little bit of attitude,” Feldenkreis added. “This collection is a celebration of generations who have made Penguin Polo a part of the story.”

The 70th Anniversary Collection is now available on www.originalpenguin.com and is available nationwide for select retailers.
