Golf Business News – Liv Golf stops fines for DP World Travel Members

Liv Golf told players that it will no longer pay the economic fines issued by the DP World Tour for participating in competitive events after the end of the season, which could have a significant impact on the Ryder Cup team in Europe.

News of Liv Golf’s new position was first reported in the telegram and announced to LIV players ahead of Liv Golf UK at the JCB event this week, meaning European players who want to maintain the DP World Tour event must pay any futures penalty from their own pockets.

according to telegraphOver the past three years, Liv Golf has paid DP World Tour a fine of about £15 million so its players can continue to play in the DP World Tour when they do not clash with the LIV event.

Just like things, whenever LIV golfers participate in the LIV tournament, which is held at the same time as the DP World Tour, they will be fined before they can pay the fine in future DP World Tour events. Currently, an estimated £80 million fine is still good.

Sergio Garcia, Ian Poulter and Lee Westwood lost a legal battle in the 2023 fines that Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton may be making the same way when they hear it in court later this year.

That hearing is due to take place after next month’s Ryder Cup, meaning that Rahm and Hatton will remain eligible to play in the matches at Bethpage Black, if selected, but if the case goes in favour of the DP World Tour and LIV golfers are not prepared to pay their own fines next year – which are estimated to be around £1m per player per season – then future membership of the DP World Tour, and eligibility to be selected for future Ryder Cups, will doubt.

As reported telegraphDP World Tour lost people like Rahm and Hatton for some of its display events, but it has the potential to anger those DP World Tour members who are loyal to the tour if it repromises penalize those who receive a large signing fee to join Liv Golf.
