Golf Business News – Golf Property Drives Foreign Interests, Newly Built Home Sales Soar in Spain

Spain's real estate market saw a significant increase in new home sales in 2024, far exceeding the growth of second-hand real estate transactions, driven in large part by housing demand in the golf community.

Colegio Registradores' new building sales rose 21.6%, compared with just 6.4% of older properties, according to the Spanish Land Registry. In popular areas such as Andalusia and Valencia, new property sales climbed 30.5% and 27.3%, respectively, a surge.

British buyers lead foreign investment, accounting for 8.64% of all overseas buyers and 1.26% of all home sales in Spain, especially strong in and around Alicante and Andalusia.

Leading developer Taylor Wimpey España highlights the natural environment, fitness opportunities and community lifestyle appeal of golf properties. “The benefits of living on a golf course have been built,” said Marc Pritchard, director of sales and marketing. “Whether you buy a second home or your primary residence, the property on the golf course can provide an excellent lifestyle experience.

“Golfists and non-golfers enjoy beauty and tranquility, as well as the social aspects of nearby clubs. The unique sense of quiet living is surrounded by so much greenery, which means these homes are very precious – and therefore, there is strong demand from buyers in Spain and abroad.”

Notable developments include the Altura 160 in Benahavís, Costa del Sol, two-bedroom apartments starting at €585,000 and €730,000 (plus VAT). The modern home offers expansive views, a communal pool, gym, co-working area and concierge services.
