Golf Business News – Golf Ireland launches volunteer framework

Golf Ireland has officially launched the Volunteer Framework, which aims to enhance its support, recognition and development opportunities in its community of more than 400 dedicated volunteers on the Ireland Islands.

The volunteer framework developed and designed by a dedicated working group through the consulting process under the guidance of Chairman Rosemary Tully is the result of an extensive volunteer survey with national and regional golf Ireland volunteers in 2023.

The framework recognizes and promotes the vital role volunteers play in golf and outlines a strategic and best practice approach designed to enhance the volunteer experience through structured training, improved resources, dedicated volunteer-related policies and increased awareness.

The Volunteer Framework is a one-stop resource designed to support new and existing volunteers. The framework that replaces the previous Golf Ireland Volunteer Policy will be a new guide to everything volunteering in the organization.

In 2024, Golf Ireland participated in 41 targeted training programs with 180 volunteers and joined 4 regional volunteer appreciation days.

“Volunteers are at the heart of Irish golf. They perform a range of tasks including mentoring junior players, organizing events, maintaining courses and welcoming golfers,” said Chairman Rosemary Tully. “This aims to ensure that these important contributions are fully recognized and supported, enhancing the overall volunteer experience.”

At the heart of the framework is the implementation of volunteer management and support technologies to simplify tasks, enhance volunteer capabilities and increase efficiency. Furthermore, clear pathways are being introduced to attract young people and create greater diversity representing the cross-section of Irish society.

In Connecticut, Leinster, Munster and Ulster, volunteers actively engage in over 750 roles, so Ireland aims to achieve an environment of collaboration, innovation and growth. The framework is expected to enhance the volunteer experience and provide opportunities for personal development, recognition and enhance satisfaction.

Mark Kennelly, CEO of Golf Ireland, said: “Our volunteer framework reflects the core objectives of the Irish Golf strategic plan to support an inclusive and thriving volunteer network. Volunteers contribute their expertise and dedication, and this framework means their efforts are celebrated and supported.”

“The launch of this framework marks a major milestone in Irish golf. Investing in our volunteers allows us to invest in the future of Irish golf, ensuring it remains accessible, dynamic and sustainable throughout Ireland. Together, we can build a stronger golf community.”
