Golf Business News – Fünfstück tops the Centurion list

Laura Fünfstück kept his nerves in the final round of the PIF London Championship, winning a victory at the Centurion club.

It was a last day of fierce competition in Hertfordshire, with 10 players completing the match within three strokes of Fünfstück. The German star had a three-shot lead overnight, but three-thirds after four holes, the day started a tricky start.

However, she recovered well and produced a stunning nine that allowed her to have a one-foot birdie to seal her Virgo Ladies European Tour champion with a score of 10 under par.

“At the beginning of the day, I said I wanted to make money today and I was in the last nine games,” said Fünfstück, who received a prize of 192,000 euros. “I’m nervous, half of the sausage for breakfast. I’m hungry now. I’m so happy, I’m so happy. It’s fun.

“Hope we’re just getting started. It’s a big validation because everyone defines whether they’re a tour champion or not. There are some of me who really support myself and I can compete in a sense, but I’m not going to be in a game that supports myself to win.

“I know I can compete enough, so now I’m close to this line, which is what I know I can do, and hopefully I can support myself a little more in the future.”

After her tricky start, the 30-year-old bounced back with a birdie in seventh place before shooting on the ninth. The German then kicked the gears in the back nine laps of the Birds of 12 and 14 to recompetitively then the final round of 72 rounds when she ended with the Birds in 17 and 18.

Ecuador’s Daniela Darquea finished the last day with 68 rounds, ending the second day, while five-time winner Anne Van Dam finished with a giant grooming as the eagle at the end of the final week, third in third place.
