Golf Business News – Buckinghamshire unveils £3m course upgrade program

Buckinghamshire will invest £3 million to upgrade its championship course and improve competition conditions throughout the year.
The Denham-based private member club Ladies Europear tour has previously hosted eligibility for the Open and the U.S. Women’s Open, renovating all 68 rivet bunkers this spring. The club is now adding more than 100,000 meters of pipes and secondary drainage and hopes to improve its ability to capture water.
A new champion tee has just been built for the picturesque three-pronged hole that runs along the Colene River and is currently planned for a full upgrade to the practice range.
The investment by owner Arora Group follows a £10m renovation of the historic 17th-century club in 2024, which now offers seven luxury bedroom suites for London and international members. The club is just 10 miles from Heathrow Airport.
Gerry Ivers, Managing Director of The Buckinghamshire, said: “Our members’ playing experience is paramount, which is why this is an important investment. The frequency of wetter winters is increasing due to climate change, so we are taking steps to ensure playing conditions remain at a very high standard all year round. With the wonderful support from our owners, the Arora Group, there is complete focus on facilities at The Buckinghamshire for our members and their guests, both on and off the golf course.”
Opened in 1992, Buckinghamshire was designed by the late John Jacobs, and despite being known as a PGA professional and coach, he is a highly regarded golf course designer.
Ivers added: “We are particularly satisfied that the bunker’s renovation and return to the shorter, indigenous rye edges, replaced the longer effect. Our Green Working Team played an important role in this work and has significantly improved definition and playability.”
The entire schedule, of course, includes:
- bunker: Completely renovated 68 rivet bunkers; sand exchange, 750 tons of new Chinese clay sand (jagged sand particles to better hold the bunker face); longer fescue grass was replaced by local rye hats around the edge of the bunker.
- drainage: Upgrade pipe drainage to more than 20,000 linear meters and secondary drainage of 91,000 linear meters; enhance water capture capacity and improve sustainability.
- 1Yingshi Football: Repurposing the first serving environment includes a compact warm-up that places the green to practice before serving for four balls.
- 18Th Football: The back T-shirt (black) now extends to 220 yards on this great three-pole finishing hole along the Colene River.
- Practice scope: With the introduction of new state-of-the-art performance technologies, reshaping the target area and new hitting surfaces, this range can be fully upgraded.
