Golf Business News – ASGCA hosts Pinehurst’s Design Boot Camp

After the overwhelming success of the inaugural event, the American Society of Golf Course Architects Foundation will host its second design boot camp at Pinehurst Resort, North Carolina from March 9-13, 2026.

The five-day conference – the Foundation’s fundraising program – will help aspiring golf course designers and architecture, working closely with nine renowned architects at a special location.

The course will attract classroom participants, where they will learn the foundations and principles of golf course design and then work on the field to Pinehurst Sandmines, adjacent to Pinehurst No. 10.

In this field, participants will have the opportunity to study the site, route layout, and design holes suitable for unique sanding properties. The program also includes golf on Pinehurst No. 2, and a cradle with coaches who can provide design insights while playing, as well as social activities and opportunities to learn business from coaches, all past ASGCA presidents collectively designed hundreds of courses. These include Jan Bel Jan, Jeff Blume, Jeff Brauer, Bruce Charlton, Steve Forrest, Dr. Mike Hurdzan, Tom Marzolf and Damian Pascuzzo.

As another experience, Coore & Crenshaw Golf Course Architect Bill Coore, Asgca will lead participants on a live tour of No. 11 Pinehurst. Currently under construction in Sandmines, Pinehurst No. 11 is scheduled to open in autumn 2027.

By combining a golf course and one of the most respected addresses in interactions with some of the world’s leading architects, design bootcamps are a rare opportunity for anyone who loves to draw golf holes and wants to learn about the next step in their construction journey. Rob Shults, attendee of the inaugural boot camp, shared the feeling of getting into practice architects’ shoes.
