French Open 2025: Joao Fonseca hopes to shock Jack Draper

Unlike some of Brazil’s sports superstars, Fonseca’s story is not the humble beginning of the slums in Rio de Janeiro.
Fonseca grew up in a wealthy family and began playing tennis at Rio de Janeiro Country Club, one of Brazil’s most unique private venues.
His father Christiano, a businessman, started his own hedge fund company, while Roberta’s mother, a junior volleyball player, moved into sporting events management.
“For me, when I was 10 or 11 years old, tennis was initially a hobby,” Fonseca said.
“When I was 12, things got worse and I changed coaching and school.
“I started practicing twice a day during the pandemic. Things changed very quickly.”
Global sponsors are starting to put profitable contracts on the table – including sportswear brands owned by Roger Federer, while leading agents provide services.
But Vonseca’s parents decided to guide himself with the help of Christiano’s former colleague Gustavo Abreu.
“I have a great foundation with my family and the team,” Fonseca added.
“They helped me keep my feet and focus on my daily routine.
“They know what I need to do to improve my game and personality.”
