Free agent SG Jordan Clarkson intends to sign with the New York Knicks
During the offseason, the New York Knicks are still looking for their next head coach. At the same time, the team must be active in free agents. New York needs 2025-26 years of depth to compete in the East.
In 2024-25, the Knicks have fewer points and few minutes on the bench than any other NBA reserve team. That was the design of former head coach Tom Thibodeau. However, the Knicks had to turn to their bench and do a legal rotation. ESPN’s Shams Charania announced the Knicks’ plan to sign free agent Jordan Clarkson. He is finalizing a contract acquisition with Utah Jazz.

Jordan Clarkson won a second round pick in the 2014 NBA Draft and was selected by the Missouri Wizards. On draft night, Clarkson traded from the Wizards to the Lakers. Clarkson spent the first four and a half years of his career in Los Angeles. In the 2016-17 season, he was traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers. SG spent three and a half seasons with the Cavaliers before the Cavaliers traded him to Utah Jazz in 2018-19.
This is where Jordan Clarkson spent the last five seasons of his career. He played 342 games for the Jazz and played 93 games. In 2020-21, Clarkson had 79 games in 82 games with the Jazz playing 79 games on the bench. He averaged 16.0 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game, on his way to winning the sixth man of the year. Clarkson averaged 17.5 points per game in five and a half seasons with Utah.

ESPN’s Shams Charania announced on Monday that the 33-year-old will complete a contract acquisition with jazz. When Clarkson became a free agent, he intended to sign a deal with the New York Knicks. Clarkson is a teacher who can give Jalen Brunson a break when needed. Last season, Jalen Brunson won the ball in 8.6 minutes per game.
In the past, Tom Thibodeau would have relied heavily on his starters, especially the franchise PG Jalen Brunson. His 35.4 minutes per game ranked in the top 15 in the NBA last season. Three of New York’s five starters made the top five. Moving forward, the Knicks may not be the case. We will see what kind of roster the Knicks can add in the offseason. Signing Jordan Clarkson is a steady start for a team looking to compete again at the Eastern Conference.
