Francisco Cerundolo continued his pursuit of a second title of the season on the “golden swing” at the BCI Seguros Chile Open in Santiago on Friday, defeating American Emilio Nava 6-1, 6-1 in just 66 minutes.

The top seed won the title in Buenos Aires earlier this month and has won seven of his last eight South American clay-court matches, according to the Infosys ATP Win-Loss Index. Cerundolo’s only loss came in the second round in Rio de Janeiro. The PIF ATP Ranking No. 19 dominated the match against Nava, the first American to reach the quarterfinals at a South American clay-court tour level event since Rajiv Ram in 2017.

“I didn’t expect this,” Cerundolo said of his 66-minute win. “I saw Emilio playing very well over the past few days, so I started to focus very much on my game because I knew it was going to be a very difficult game. But I thought I played very well. I rarely missed any shots today. I’m very happy with my performance.”

Cerundolo has now won 150 tour-level matches, the first active Argentinian to achieve that mark. When he takes on Yannick Hanfmann in his 18th ATP Tour semi-final, he will equal 151 wins.

“It’s a lot. Not a lot of players get to 150 wins, so I’m very happy about this milestone,” Cerundolo said. “I’m going to try to achieve more, set more records and try to keep winning.”

Hanfmann spent 2 hours and 13 minutes defeating the lucky loser Velius Gobas of Lithuania 3-6, 6-2, 6-2, becoming the first German to advance to the ATP Tour semifinals on South American clay since Tommy Haas in Sao Paulo in 2014.

Cerundolo defeated Hanfman in the second round of last year’s Lexus ATP Head2Head Series in San Diego to take a 4-1 lead.
