Four weeks after thumb surgery, 76ers Jared McCain will be reevaluated within four weeks
Just last week, 76ers guard Jared McCain suffered a UCL tear on his right thumb. Not ideal, because the 2025-26 regular season is only a few weeks away. On Tuesday, McCain had surgery to repair his thumb.
The 21-year-old boy was unfortunately injured shortly before the 2025-26 season. Jared McCain has had a successful surgery on his thumb and will be reevaluated within four weeks, the team announced. This means McCain will miss the start of the 76ers’ 2025-26 season.

In the 16th pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, the Sixers selected Jared McCain from Duke. As a rookie, McCain played 23 games and played eight games. He suffered a unfortunate ripped bend bread on December 13. Jared McCain missed the rest of the Philadelphia regular season. In 23 games, he averaged 15.3 points, 2.4 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game. He shot impressively from outside the arc.
Jared McCain worked very hard to prepare for the start of the 2025-26 season. However, the former first-round draft pick was injured in a workout last week. He had a UCL tear on his right thumb and had a special surgery in the hospital. It was conducted by Dr. Michelle Carson. McCain has had a successful surgery and he will reevaluate him within four weeks.

Sadly, Jared McCain will miss the start of the Philadelphia 2025-26 campaign. Tyrese Maxey of the 76ers is confident McCain will return to the lineup, with no restrictions. He noted that Jared McCain was a very active person who worked hard. Jared McCain has proven to be ready for the NBA last season. He scored a career-high 34 points against the Cavaliers on November 13.
Jared McCain earned double-digit points in 15 of the 23 games for the 76ers in 2024-25. These include eight games, with at least 20 points and 20 games. The Sixers have several defenders who will rotate this season. Tyress Maxey and VJ Edgecombe may be the start backcourt for Philadelphia. Where will Jared McCain be when he returns from injury? Edgecombe’s length and explosiveness can play SF. This could make McCain part of the starting lineup. Their season opener is Wednesday, October 22, with the Celtics.
