Wimbledon 2025: Mirra Andreeva is nurtured by former champion Conchita Martinez

Martinez seems to have played some roles: coach, friends, tennis parents. Is this an accurate assessment?
“No, no, no.” Martinez shook his head.
“I’m her coach – that’s the only way. Can you be friends? Yes. We have a great relationship.
“But I was the guy on the tennis court, changed things and made her better.
“I’m the one who oversees her entire career. I’m responsible for finding everything around her and it will make her better.”
So far, it is paying off.
Born in Siberia and trained in France, Andreeva has been touted as a future Grand Slam champion since she was 15 years old at the Madrid Open.
Martinez said the teenager was a superstar from the moment she started working with Andreeva last year.
Her progress under Martinez has always made sense.
This season, she has won two WTA 1000 titles in Dubai and Indian Wells – the Grand Slam match level, helping her climb to sixth place in the world.
Despite a generational gap, Andreeva and Martinez bounce back against each other allows players to thrive.
