The game started very equally, with each team having strong possessions until Finland gained an early lead. The United States tried to climb backwards, but Finland shut them down and came out with a 6-3 victory.
Game review
It was a round-trip game, but in the second half of the first phase, Finland’s Aatos Koivu scored 1-0. The only assist went to Joona Saarelainen. After this goal, there were some close calls but no other progress, and Finland ended the period with a 1-0 lead.
The second stage turned towards Finland as they scored three goals while the United States scored only one. The first Finnish goal of the period was Jasper Kuhta’s score; Matias Vanhanen and Daniel Nieminen assisted him with a 2-0 run. The score fell for a while until Finland scored again, this time Koivu, whose second match was in the power play. Mitja Jokinen and Saarelainen assisted him with a 3-0 mark.
After 20 seconds, the United States answered Will Moore’s answer with a 3-1 time. EJ Emery and Mac Swanson assisted him. It was the only goal in the United States during that period, as Finland extended its lead to 4-1 with a goal from Saarelinen two minutes later. Nieminen and Vanhanen assisted him, and that was how the period ended with Finland leading the way.
In the third phase of the power game, the United States won two goals in the third phase. The goal was scored by LJ Mooney; Logan Hensler and Cole Eiserman assisted him in winning Finland 4-2. Finland scored 5-2 less than two minutes later, and the difference between the two goals did not last long. The target was designated by Vanhanen. Kasper Pikkaranen assisted him, and Nieminen recorded his third assist of the day.
They added another Kuhta goal this time to make it 6-2. He was assisted by Vanhanen and Nieminen. In the last few minutes, the United States added another target to be within three. The goal was scored by Will Zellers, with a single assist going to Cole McKinney. However, that was not enough, as Finland won 6-3.
Both teams will re-action on the final day of the show on Saturday, August 2, with Finland facing Sweden’s Nordic opponent in the first match. Canada and the United States will have an ending of the show in the afternoon.
