Fangraphs Weekly Mail Bags: July 12, 2025

Thomas P. Costello / Asbury Park Press-USA Today

If you’ve ever sent a mail bag question, you might notice that we sometimes wait to answer it. We can’t talk about all of your good questions every week, but many of them are still so relevant and interesting that we can respond to them later. Other issues require some reports about us and it may take more than a week to contact various sources to gather the required information to resolve this information.

I think this is all worth mentioning, because three of the four questions raised in today’s mail bag were submitted a week ago and have changed with the statistics since the question was submitted. We’ve updated the statistics you’ll see in each question because these are the statistics we quote in the answer.

The last thing before solving your problem is: I want to remind everyone that while anyone can submit a question, Fangraphs members are unique. If you don’t have a membership yet and want to continue reading, you can sign up for a membership here. This is the best way to experience the site again and support our staff and brings many other huge benefits. Also, if you want to ask a question about an upcoming mailbag, please email me: sailbag@fangraphs.com.
