Trevor Cahill Retirement – MLB Trade Rumors

Right-handed Trevor Cahill Agent John Boggs told Newsweek’s Jon Paul Hoornstra that he had officially retired after 18 professional seasons. Cahill’s retirement was initially noticed by the Independent Atlantic League’s Gastonia Ghost Pepper, the 37-year-old Cahill made two appearances this summer’s comeback attempt.

Before his Atlantic League job this year, Cahill threw 20 2/3 innings into the Metropolitan Farm system in 2022.

Cahill, a second-round pick in track and field at the 2006 draft, threw 178 2/3 innings in his 2009 rookie season before following up with 2.97 ERA in 2010 in 196 2/3 frames. The latter performance was for Cahill to win the All-Star Award, won the full-time prize in 2011, and the All-Star Award in 2011. Cahill’s five-year contract is the longest guaranteed deal A offers to any player Lawrence Butler (Seven years) and Brent Rooker (Five years).

Despite seemingly contractual security, Cahill found himself moving before December 2011, when he was part of a five-man exchange when he was sent to the Rattlesnake. He posted a decent score in the 2012-13 Arizona rotation, then struggling in the 2015 2014 season and reinvented himself as a Chicago reliefist after bounced from D’Backs to Braves to Dodgers to Dodgers to five months. Cahill stood out in 60 of 60 appearances in 61 games against the Cubs in 2015-16, winning a 2.61 ERA on the 2016 court in 2015 and winning a World Series game (although Cahill didn’t see any action during the Chicago playoff run).

Cahill returned to rotation after signing a free agent deal with the Padres in the 2016-17 offseason, which started a Cahill pitch for six different clubs (including a return with Oakland in 2018). The results are very inconsistent, as Cahill started to have some problems with home runs, and his usual heavier approach has inherent differences depending on his defense and batting luck.

In his career, Cahill ended with a 4.26 ERA in 361 games (233 of which started). Despite only 17.8% of career strikeouts, Cahill kept the ball for most of his career with a ground ball rate of 54%.

Major League Baseball trade rumors congratulated Cahill and wished him all the best after the game.
