Ottawa Senator Buys New Arena in Downtown Ottawa – Hockey Writer – Ottawa Senator

It seems that the Ottawa Senator is closer to moving to the new arena in downtown Ottawa. This afternoon, the team announced their development department – Capital Movement Development Corporation. The National Capital Commission of the Federal Government (NCC) signed an agreement to purchase and sell 4.5 hectares of land (11 acres) at Lebreton Flats to ultimately build a large event center and sports area to eventually become a new home for the Senators.

The financial terms of the transaction are not disclosed. Senator’s president and CEO Cyril Leeder was pleased but cautious when announcing the DEA, saying that while the purchase and sale agreement is “the next step in the next step, there are still more obstacles to creating an event center at LeBreton Apartments”. These barriers include financing of projects, zoning, design and approval, and land purification in preparation for construction. As Leeder pointed out in an interview earlier this year, “will be a few years” and then before starting the construction of a new building. (From Bruce Garrioch, “It will take years before the Ottawa Senator moves to LeBreton Apartment,” said the club president, Ottawa Citizen, 26/03/2025)

Many fans will see a new arena at the LeBreton Apartment near downtown Ottawa as a more attractive location than their current location at the west end of Ottawa at Kanata, 25 km from the City Core.
