Boston Brown Bears need to build momentum in the early stages of new coaches and roster changes – Hockey Writer –

The Boston Bruins have started the 2025-26 season less than a month, so they have to swing. Last season was a difficult start. The team scored 4-7-1 in October and even though they had a nice start in goals, things quickly worsened at the end of the first month. They were turned away twice, which laid the foundation for the biggest problem that plagued them last season: the lack of shooting and goals.

While it would be effortless to say that a team wants to get out, the Bruins didn’t repeat what happened last season with some extra pressure. They know very well how difficult it is to go after a slow start.

Additionally, there will be additional pressure on the team in Marco Sturm’s new head coach this season to show that things will turn around under his new rule. Of course, there is pressure on general manager Don Sweeney, who has been under increased scrutiny in line-building decisions in recent seasons, especially given his decision not to bring high-end offensive talent to help help solve target scoring issues this summer.

The importance of building momentum

Momentum is the strong aspect of sports, something the Brownies never got last season. A great run could be a different manufacturer in the NHL. In 2024-25, the team had only four games in a row, in early December. Meanwhile, in March, their winning streak was 10 consecutive losses, which was the wrong momentum. Only nine times last season, they won multiple consecutive victories, with all events in one of the games ending in two.

The lineup that will receive ice in 2025-26 will be very different from 2024-25. With so many new players playing together, getting strong is very important to help men play with each other and start developing chemistry. The Bruins have recurring problems with continuing execution of the offensive line, especially noted last season. Former head coach Jim Montgomery tried many combinations of lines in the start of 2024-25 with little success.

Figuring out the line combination and early gels will go a long way in the rest of the season. This will also greatly help you build confidence in all new faces, but especially when considering all the youngsters on this season’s roster. To name a few, there are Fraser Minten, Marat Khusnutdinov, Matthew Poitras and Fabian Lysell.

Start with a new coach

This is always a bit abandoned for a team to adapt to the speed of new coaches and systems. It only becomes more and more difficult when throwing a player full of many players who have never played together or played 20 games as a unit.

In some ways, this is a completely new beginning. Offensively, especially, the Bruins may either make their mark in the franchise before last season’s trade deadline, and compete in only a few games, or return to the team after four seasons with Columbus Blue Jackets. This provides Sturm with a real opportunity to build and influence the lineup.

A strong start to the season will build trust between the players and Sturm, as well as the fan base and the new head coach. From beginners to returning players, everyone will seek to build trust and confidence in a brand new coach. It was obvious last season that a slow start lost Montgomery’s control over the locker room, and Sturm didn’t want to risk repeating the same mistake, especially during his tenure.

While Sturm is certainly talking about all the right things in the way the training camp begins, the start of the season will be the first real test to see if he can implement his intensity and accountability information.

Sweeney’s pressure

After the disastrous 2024-25 season of the 2024-25 season, there is pressure on the team to see if they can quickly correct the ship in 2025-26 and compete again. But no one is under greater pressure and scrutiny than Sweeney, who continues to receive contract extensions and fails to win the championship for a decade in his work. Instead, although GM continues to build, several head coaches are now fired for not performing.

To its credit, Sweeney did get the trigger last season’s deadline and took a lot of big moves. But he still didn’t do anything to solve the depth score, the team’s biggest lingering problem during his tenure. Theoretically, if everyone works a little harder, their problems can be solved and his problems can be solved. In practice, I think that through the acquisition of works and everyone’s intensified game in 2025-26 will solve their chances of scoring.

But maybe it will be solved. Maybe Sweeney will finally give one of the young men a real chance to prove themselves, and they will be the goal-scoring and help the team desperately need it. Remind us that the Bruins had multiple games last season and they didn’t score goals throughout the period. Nothing matters, Jeremy Swayman’s performance in goals, not defensive issues in his own area, rather than disastrous special team performance if the team can’t score. To state the obvious, they are a necessary condition to win the game.

A strong start to the season will silence many of Sweeney’s skeptics and keep the Bruins’ fan base silent in a rapidly expanding belief as his fan base, the team will never win the Stanley Cup as long as he is responsible. A good start won’t completely eliminate the mood, but at least calm it down.

2025-26 starts in less than a month

There was movement around the Warriors ice rink again. The captain’s practice began last week and the rookie training camp began this week. This weekend will also see prospect challenges in Buffalo, NY. This will be a great opportunity to see top prospects like Minten and Dans Locmelis for the first time in 2025-26.
