Emma Raducanu takes first win of the season at Hobart International

Emma Raducanu earned her first win of the season with a straight-sets win over Camila Osorio after play at the Hobart International Stadium was suspended due to rain.

The 23-year-old British player won the first set but fell 4-2 to the Colombian in the second set when Tuesday’s match ended prematurely.

However, she overturned a break deficit on her return on Wednesday and let out a cheer of joy after winning 6-3 7-6 (7-2).

Top-seeded Raducanu avoided playing two matches on the same day after second-round opponent Magdalena Fretch withdrew due to injury.

Instead, the former U.S. Open champion will advance to the quarterfinals on Thursday against Australian wild card Tyra Preston as she ramps up preparations for the Australian Open.

“A very, very difficult game. We played in all kinds of conditions and it was really difficult on and off a few times,” Raducanu said.

“I don’t think I slept a lot between games, so it’s a new game for me.

“I thought Camila played an unbelievable game. I’m very happy with how I performed today and turned the game around.”
