Eichel – McDavid competition takes center stage in the second game of the Golden Knights – Oilers series – Hockey Writer – Las Vegas Golden Knights

The 2015 NHL Draft showed off the main talents of the NHL. The draft from Mikko Rantanen, Mitch Marner and Kyle Connor have the potential to be one of the strongest people in history.
However, the first two are arguably the most talked about. Connor McDavid entered the first game of the Edmonton Oilers, followed by Jack Eichel, who entered the second place in the Buffalo Sabers. The two of them combined 1,690 points, making it the most productive punch or two since their choice.

They have been connected since the draft ten years ago and now their paths have once again crossed in the Stanley Cup playoffs. In 2023, they met for the first time during the playoffs, Eichel took the advantage as the Vegas Golden Knights won the game in six games, eliminating the Oilers. Las Vegas also continues to win the Stanley Cup.
With the first race in the Book Round 2, the two of them now crossed each other's track again to compete in the Western Conference Finals again. It's the history of both, and what they expect from them in the rest of the series.
How it all started between Eichel and McDavid
Entering the 2015 NHL Draft, McDavid emphasized almost all mock drafts, scout reports, etc. Eichel was behind him and the two immediately established a competition between the first and second draft picks.
This competition is not Sidney Crosby and Alex Ovechkin. However, its privileges make these two special players. Eichel started his career in Buffalo and McDavid of Edmonton, and the two didn't cause a lot of buzz, just because they played against each other twice a season.
Everyone in the world of hockey thinks McDavid is the best player in the world, and he scored 153 points two seasons ago. Eichel enjoys speed as the Saber continues to struggle, but this season has exploded with the Golden Knights. Eichel scored 94 points in 77 games and McDavid reached triple-digit numbers with 100 points in 67 games.
Now, the two meet each other in the same division, playing against each other four times a season. They have now seen twice in the playoffs in the past three years, both in the second round.
“I don’t think anyone should compare themselves to him,” Echelle said of McDavid. “I think what he is doing and how he plays, he's just his level. I'm not trying to compare myself to anyone. I'm just trying to be my best version” ('from'Is the competition from connor McDavid vs. Jack Eichel finally going to be a reality?'' sports11/18/22).
McDavid and Eichel have been in touch since draft day and their paths may be more frequent in the coming years as their team succeeds and share their joint divisions.
McDavid has an edge in the 2025 series, with the Oilers leading 1-0
McDavid leads the score between the two teams with a margin of 5 goals and 10 points as the two face to face in the 2023 Round 2 series. Eichel is behind him, with 3 goals and 9 points. It’s no surprise that the two remained active in the 2025 playoffs, and it’s no surprise that McDavid recorded two assists, while Eichel had only one assist in Game 1.
Most importantly, though, the Oilers have the edge of a 1-0 series, and Game 2 will be a sign of how long the series will take. Of the teams that were trailing 2-0 in the series, only 12% were not very good. Head coach Bruce Cassidy was also not satisfied with the game. Edmonton exacerbated their game, while Vegas did not.
“They improved their game today and I don't think we did it midway through the game,” Cassidy said. “I think it's simple. They're better than us.” sports11/18/22).

McDavid raised the playoffs total to 13 points in seven games, while Eichel started to find his footing with six points in seven games, including threes from his last two outings.
The second game may prove to be a breakout point in this series, and although the series is still young, the odds are not lost.
Golden Knight, Oiler will be attributed to Aichel and McDavid's drama
It is for sure that the two best in the game will drive the narrative in this series. But when it all is said, the question will be who delivered the most important time, pushing their team to a step into the Stanley Cup. Game 2 remains in Las Vegas, with the puck falling at 6:30 pm as Las Vegas seems to make the series equal after dropping the first game.
