Dwight Howard is elected to Hall of Fame

Nicknamed “Superman” for his athleticism, Howard ended his NBA career as a three-time defensive player of the year, eight-time all-NBA member and five rebounding champions.

The 6-foot-10-sized big man chose to give up on the academy and was selected as No. 1 by the Orlando Magic in the 2004 draft. His idol Kevin Garnett reportedly inspired him after Garnett did the same thing in 1995.

Howard played in the NBA for 18 years with the Magic, Los Angeles Lakers, Houston Rockets, Atlanta Hawks, Charlotte Hornets, Washington Wizards and the Philadelphia 76ers.

He won the only championship with the Lakers in the 2020 Orlando bubble, last time in the league with the 2021-22 team.

In 1,242 professional NBA regular season games (1,078 games), Howard averaged 15.7 points, 11.8 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 1.8 blocks and 31.8 minutes of games while shooting 58.7% from the field.

In February, the former No. 1 pick in the 2004 draft was selected as the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame as an individual player and was also selected as a member of the 2008 American Men’s Olympic basketball team.

According to Jason Jones of Track and Field, Howard signed a deal in April to play for Big3’s Los Angeles Riot (Big3), a three-pair basketball league co-founded by Ice Cube.
