Rory McIlroy Caddy made 1 request and a Bethpage mystery

welcome! Where are you asking? I called this on weekend 9. Think of it as a place to heat you on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. We will have ideas. We will have tips. We will have tweets. But overall, although sometimes more, sometimes even less. As for who I am? The following paragraph tells some stories. I can get in touch nick.piastowski@golf.com.
For 20 years, I wonder who drove 50 yards over the head of Bethpage Black.
To start this mystery, though, we need to go back for another six years, until 1999. That summer, I lived at Huntington Station in New York, a shopping mall named after writer Walt Whitman, friendly restaurants and my first experience on the Long Island Railroad. But, Bethpatch is where I need to go. Five golf courses. BBQ room. A few miles away. Say less. I played with red. and green. and blue. and yellow. But I never fell into black people due to the stylish intern and mild fears – but regretted it. On my last day, I tried it, but it was booked and I bought the head cover.

$39.99/year
But Ethan used to be – still is – a helluva guy. In 2004, I was his best man at the wedding. And he knew I didn’t play black and felt with. So as a best man’s gift, he hopes we give it a try. Stay on Long Island. Look at the city. Play golf. Yessir.
Then it rained.
every day.
We managed nine holes on the green and finished the race in the downpour, which prompted a firefighter to yell at the nearby firetruck: “Go into the house and you frighten the idiot.” So we did, took a pint, and left. But we were back on the last day. This time, Ethan wanted a souvenir, and for entertainment, I looked at the Tee Times Board.
There is a black opening.
$45. Twilight Rate.
Thirty minutes later we lifted up and I ridiculously hooked my first ball. Who cares? We are continuing. We paired with a Long Island dad and son. Two people behind us.
You probably know where this is going. The first paragraph gives it up.
At 5 o’clock, our four-player combination made 300 yards, and when a ball fell on us, 50 yards ahead.

Our father whom we matched turned around. He shouted. Every other word he said starts with the letter F. He needs an apology. He told us we shouldn’t move. Ethan and I felt something. Puzzled? Yes. fear? Yes. But it’s mainly curiosity. What are you going to fall down?
Who plays that ball?
That was…a 15-year-old.
He apologized. An older man apologized. Our game partners said something different. But when he walked away, I whispered to the child:
“nice shot.”
But I never caught his name, although “Bert Patch’s Mystery Teen Bomber” also brings a better story. As for the focus here, is it apart from the introduction of our weekly conversation? Since this Ryder Cup announcement, I am a firm believer that golf won’t see any bigger happenings. Team activities. On Long Island. In Mooney. A beloved person. People CC.
Everyone has a story.
Let’s see if we can find another eight items on the weekend.
A harvest in the past week
2. Rory McIlroy conducted an interview with the batting team this week at Amgen Irish Open. In it, when talking about his motivation after his Master won, he was asked if he could win the Masters again, and then he answered – which also once again demonstrated his loyalty to Caddy Harry Diamond:
“The second green jacket, the second purple jug, the second U.S. Open,” McIlroy said. “You know, Harry told me shortly after I won Augusta, and he said, “It’s great, but I haven’t, but I haven’t. A chance to win the green jacket.”

Another gain of the week
3. On Wednesday, a member of our team wrote on our Slack channel: “When will Paddy write a self-help book?” The idea was in response to a press conference by Padraig Harrington, and then Harrington answered 12 questions from reporters ahead of the Amgen Irish Open, but about 20 minutes later, he reaffirmed that he might just be the best thinker in golf.
This kind of communication is my favorite, and there is italics on the reporter’s questions:
How do you put a fire in your belly?
“My theory is perfect for me, and of course it comes down to my age group,” Harrington said. “Most careers last about 20 years, but seven or eight years to start getting into and reaching their peak. You might have a real peak of 18 months, two years later, two years, then 15 to 20 years, and then you’ve burned down. You’re still playing, but you’ve burned down, but you’re going to get out, and I’m going to reflect a lot of people. So many people.”
“I do see people’s career peaks happening very early. It’s 18 months of running, two or three years of running, it’s four years of four years of their career, but no one is outstanding after the peak. That’s the essence of the game. Yes, burnout comes, and it’s for me in 2016, about 20 years, about 20 years. Realizing that I really like playing golf.
“I found a new life lease. The championship journey definitely helped. Strangely, I played better, [and] The temptation is to go back to working harder and work harder. This is very simple. My description is like this: 15 years ago, if someone said we were going to have supper, I wouldn’t go – I have physiology, I have to go to the gym, I have to do it, I have to do it. Now that I’m leaving, we’re going to have supper, it’s great, I’ll change all the supper. I still go to the gym and I still do my physiology. But my priorities, I won’t be as professional as I was 15 years ago, because I can’t.
“It makes me work hard. Get up three and a half hours before kickoff time and a young man can do that. I look at the young man and I see what they do in the gym and all of these things, I go, yes, I’ve done everything before. You just can’t keep that pace.
“I was re-invigorated because I found a new way. I always loved playing golf. I always loved practicing, but I really had to have different prospects. I think this is most of their lives, they got their own stage in their work, they have all that expertise because they’ve come across all the walls, because they’ve got a little hard work and they’re going to work hard and be able to get out of annoying things and get out of things and get out of things and go out of things. Golf.”
A harvest from the weekend
4. Watch the Walker Cup at Cypress Point this weekend. For golf. for courses.
Why? Watch the video below, narrated by Michael Bamberger of Golf:

5. I also like the topic below in Golfers Journal (the full story can be found at the bottom of the tweet):
In 1982, a caddie paved a temporary shelter between the 15th and 16th holes in Cypress Point and lived there secretly for eight months.
Not in the city.
Not on the road.
It’s here, overlooking the most famous hole in golf in the trees. This is the story of Ray Sterbick pic.twitter.com/ljyybmmert

I found interesting golf stories
6. I think it’s interesting. In the latest episode of Barstool’s “Fore Play” podcast, Tommy Fleetwood talks about how he plays the mini driver – and says he’s already learned about it through Fred’s couple.
“So I’m in the Masters in 2023,” Fleetwood said. “The Fred couple are in the range with this burner mini driver. I mean, Fred talks to everyone in the Masters range. Just like he likes to talk, play, hang out, hang out. He comes to me and he starts talking about the club. I look at it and like, “Yeah, it looks really good.” “What do you think.
Anyway, I got one on Hilton’s head the next week and I was hitting it all week and I thought, this club was incredible. So I’ve had one since then, just like that day and that day. I think I actually have to give the Freds credibility because he might be the first to use it, I might be second, but I think I’m on the tour and I’m so popular.

Send me an email
11. Here is an email I received this week:
“Every player who is in the Ryder Cup is talking about how honor it is to be a part of the Ryder Cup team, and it is a dream come true.
“But today’s captains are more interested in winning the cup bragging right than spreading honors representing as many aspiring golfers as possible in the United States or Europe. People expect this is the most effective way for the captain to exercise the captain’s draft picks – select new players, choose honors and spread honors and dreams in the cup, or because they have good personal rapport and kinship with the captain himself, regardless of the current form.
“Unfortunately, the media generally won’t flag this practice and criticize it. Maybe you also think that bragging rights are more important than dreams themselves. What a pity!”
