Don Nelson earns Chuck Daly Lifetime Achievement Award 2025

It’s time to choose Don Nelson as the winner of the 2025 Chuck Daly Lifetime Achievement Award. We’re talking about one of only two coaches in league history, resulting in at least 250 wins from three different teams.
“History has reflected Don Nelson’s amazing contribution as a cutting-edge innovator and visionary,” Pacers coach Rick Carlisle said. “At the 1980s and 1990s, he adapted the team to historical speed, Liberal three-point shooting, countdown offense and destructive defensive programs.
The Indiana-based tactician then added: “It all establishes itself as one of the most compelling figures in all professional sports. I’m sure Chuck Daly will agree that our beloved “Nellie” deserves this prestigious recognition.”
Hall of Famers revealed he felt incredible by this recognition and thanked everyone who inspired him throughout his career. “I am so grateful and honored to receive this incredible honor and join my previous coaching roster,” Nelson shared on Sunday.
The 85-year-old even recalls Daly, the coach who inspired these awards. “Chuck Daly is my dear friend, thanks to his class, character and of course his coaching abilities. Chuck is an absolute genius in every aspect of his game and life,” Don shared.
The former tactician, who served as head coach of the NBA, has participated in 31 campaigns, starting with the Milwaukee Bucks, Golden State Warriors, New York Knicks and Dallas Mavericks. Nelson reached a record of 1,335-1063 (.557), and is currently ranked second in wins and matches (2,398).
He insisted: “I am glad I have had the opportunity to guide him, learn from him and benefit from his knowledge. It is an understatement to say that I was deeply moved to awards to earn his name. It’s special.”
