Dominic Smith chooses minor league deal with Yankees

Dominic Smith ESPN’s Jeff Passan reported that he had become a free agent after triggering the exit clause in a minor league deal with the Yankees. Smith is not XX(b) free agent’s June 1st free agent’s exit date, but his deal apparently still contains some exit flexibility if he’s not summoned to the active roster in New York.

This is Smith’s second time choosing a minor deal with the Yankees as he also chose his initial contract at the end of spring training but re-signed with the club after opening day. Smith has been playing in Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre since then, hitting .255/.333/.448 with eight home runs in 189 sets. Smith is primarily a left fielder with a lot of game time at first base and DH, in the right field and in the few games.

Despite his good numbers and his defensive flexibility, it’s not hard to see why the Yankees don’t need to bring Smith to the Grand Slam. Even if there is Giancarlo Stanton Missed the whole season, Benreis Can play a regular DH role and Paul Goldschmidt Excellent at first base. The outfield pictures are crowded too Judge Aaron,,,,, Cody Bellinger,,,,, Jasson Dominguezand Trent Grisham Due to some unexpected large products on the plate, it was more than expected than expected. As Stanton slowly recovers from health, this situation will only become more crowded when the Bronx commits future injuries, so he may not have signed Smith if he wants to have a clearer path to playing time in the majors.

Smith’s work has faded during his 2017-22 game against the Mets and has become a traveler since leaving Queens. Smith has been part of six different organizations since January 2023, with the Nationals, the Red Sox and the Reds reaching 893 PA of .247/.321/.370.
