The Dolphins’ depth in the backcourt took a hit on Sunday. The third-string RB Alexander Mattison suffered a season-end neck injury to the Bears. He was taken to a local hospital and later underwent neck surgery. Mattison began his career with the Vikings in 2019. Minnesota uses a third-round pick to pick Mattison from Boise State. He is the Vikings’ reserve game four seasons behind Dalvin Cook.
In 2023, Mattison played 16 of the team’s 17 games and started 13 games. Although most of the team’s games began in 2023, Mattison did not score a touchdown. He took the ball out 180 times for a total of 700 yards. After the 2023 season, Mattison signed a one-year contract with the Raiders.

Mattison played 14 games for the Raiders last season and started seven games. He passed the ball 132 times, made 420 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns. After the 2024 season, he signed a one-year, $1.3 million contract with the Dolphins. Unfortunately, Mathisson suffered a neck injury at the end of the season against the Bears Sunday.
After completing Mattison throughout the season, the Dolphins have De’Von Achane, Jaylen Wright and Ollie Gordon on their depth list. Achane will start to start for the dolphin. He played all 17 games last season and played 16 games. Wright is the supposed backup, and rookie Ollie Gordon will be the third string. NFL insiders reported veteran free agent RB Jamaal Williams was working out for the Dolphins today. It is possible that he uses the practice squad as a depth film, which is called UP if he continues to get injured in the RB room.
