Future Hall of Famers signed a rewards contract with his 18th Major League Baseball season. Although he guarantees only 7.5mm, the incentive for this deal is 8.5mm based on his workload. He can release $1MM in bonuses for winning the 13th, 14th, 15th, 16th and 16th. The deal also includes roster bonuses. He will charge an extra $2.5mm of 2.5mm to reach an active roster of 30 days, $1mm for 60 days, and $1mm for 90 days.
Last season, Kershaw was limited to seven games. He missed the first few months of his recovery from shoulder surgery that he had gone through in the second half of 2023. The Bones Spurs sent him back to the list of injuries at the end of August. Kershaw cannot return to the World Series. He ended the year with 4.50 ERA in 30 innings.
