Golf Business News – Harewood Downs builds a more sustainable future with new reservoir plans

The Harewood Downs Golf Club in Buckinghamshire is preparing to install three reservoirs on its ground to take on an important step towards a greater environmental responsibility.
The program, approved by Buckinghamshire Council this spring, is scheduled to begin in April 2026, and will drain water around the site collected in the reservoir before recycling and use to maintain the courses, TEES, TEES, TEES, methods, and finally.
Located between the second and ninth holes of the Amersham-based club, the reservoir is adjacent to the newly renovated clubhouse and will be able to store 19,500m³ of water on site.
Using water is one of the biggest environmental challenges facing the world of golf, with billions of liters of courses every day around the world. As the industry increasingly moves to more environmentally friendly approaches, more clubs are turning to recycled water as a solution.
Harewood Downs is now joining this growing list, and when the reservoir is finished, the club hopes it will stay in its original state without having to pump water from the supervisor.
Matt Mayfield, general manager of Harewood Downs, said: “As a golf club, as a business, we have a responsibility to do our best to protect and protect the environment, and one of the biggest areas that any golf club should consider is their consumption.
“Investing in building these reservoirs is a huge step for us, but it will greatly reduce our resource use and carbon footprint. We are excited to switch to recycled water and play our role at a critical moment in this industry.”
