Dakshwar Suresh had a perfect weekend in Bengaluru on Sunday, helping India achieve their best finish in recent Davis Cup history.

PIF ATP Ranking No. 457 Suresh defeated No. 162 Guy Den Ouden 6-4, 7-6(4) to register a landmark 3-2 victory over the Netherlands in the first round of the 2026 Davis Cup Qualifiers. Suresh had already beaten world number 88 Jesper de Jong in straight sets on Saturday, and he also teamed up with Yoki Bumbry to defeat Sander Arends and David Pell in doubles 7-6(0) 3-6, 7-6(1) on Sunday morning.

India, who reached the Davis Cup finals in 1966, 1974 and 1987, have now won three consecutive Davis Cup matches for the first time since 2013-14. In 2025, they defeated Togo, then Switzerland to reach the 2026 qualifiers, and now 2024 finalists the Netherlands, with the Asian country reaching the second qualifying round for the first time since the qualifying format was introduced in 2019.

Standing between India and a spot in November’s Davis Cup final will be South Korea. Jung Hyun, a 2018 Australian Open semi-finalist who has been plagued by injuries in recent years, delivered the decisive blow for Australia as he beat Marco Trengeliti 6-4, 6-3 in Busan to seal a 3-2 victory over Argentina.

The United States, Canada, France and the Czech Republic will also participate in the second qualifying round in September. Australian Open doubles champion Christian Harrison teamed up with Austin Krajicek as the United States beat Hungary 4-0 to tie the 32-time champion.

Canada beat Brazil 3-2 after Gabriel Diallo and Liam Drax won singles in Vancouver on Sunday, while France, led by world No. 1 Arthur Lindeknych, beat Slovakia 3-1. The Czech team, led by world number 21 Jiri Lehecka, easily beat Sweden 3-1.

Belgium and Ecuador were the other two countries to win their first-round qualifying matches on Sunday. Belgium beat Bulgaria 4-0, while Ecuador produced a stunning first-day performance in Quito to beat 28-time champions Australia. Gonzalo Escobar and Diego Hidalgo gave the South Americans an undisputed 3-0 lead with a 7-6(5), 6-4 doubles victory over Lynch Hijikata and Jordan Thompson with a final singles match remaining.
