The New Jersey Devils need to change that narrative quickly, as they’ve been playing sub-.500 hockey for over a month. They desperately need Jack Hughes back.

In this edition of Devils News & Rumors, we add a little more to the Quinn Hughes situation, take a look at the numbers without Jack, and a positive storyline for one of the Devils’ top prospects.
Quinn HughesFuture landing spot: New Jersey?
It’s been a real struggle for the Vancouver Canucks, who have a 10-14-3 record. It’s no secret that Quinn wants to play with his brothers at some point over his career… But with the Canucks’ recent woes, fans are wondering if him joining the Devils as early as this season is a realistic possibility.
Some even say Quinn doesn’t care about the Canucks and wants to leave Now. There are a few cherry-picked clips floating around – like these – that don’t account for the fact that Quinn plays for over 27 minutes a night (!!) and is sometimes exhausted by the end of a shift. This doesn’t mean he is give up.

These are not necessarily all mutually exclusive. He’s still likely committed to winning in Vancouver and hoping they turn things around while potentially getting a decent return on the trade market. The next few months should be very interesting.
Struggles Without Jack Hughes
Speaking of struggles: Without Quinn’s brother Jake, the Devils don’t look any better than the Canucks. That became abundantly clear during Wednesday night’s 3-0 loss to the Dallas Stars.
Before Jack’s injury, the Devils were averaging 3.35 goals per game. Without him: Averaged just 2.67 per game, down more than 20%. Going back four seasons — when Jake was beginning to fully establish himself as an elite player in the NHL — the Devils were 126-75-18 (.616 PTS%) with him and 22-28-3 (.443 PTS%) without him.
If all goes according to plan, the Devils have about 15 games left before Jack returns. As the league currently stands, they have slipped to second place in the wild card, just four points ahead of the Toronto Maple Leafs (14th in the Eastern Conference).
As linebacker Brendan Dillon said, “Go by committee, not those standout goals.” [we need to] Get some greasy backboards, throw things to the net, crash the net. We don’t seem to be doing that right now and we have to change course soon. “
Yegorov shines in MSG
Promising Devils goaltender Mikhail Egorov recently played for Boston College against Cornell at Madison Square Garden. His performance was outstanding, making 28 of 29 interceptions (0.966%) in the 2-1 win.
Of course, for Egorov, the feeling of winning at the “Garden” is one he hopes to recreate in the NHL, as the Devils’ fiercest rivals play in the building. He is still only 19 years old.
During a recent episode of Talking About the Devil, Egorov said he wasn’t sure when he would turn to professional hockey. He is now focused solely on the immediate goal, which is winning a national championship.
