Gabriel Diallo has fond memories of the Almaty Open, where he reached his first ATP Tour final last year. The seventh-seeded Canadian got off to an impressive start in the latest ATP 250 season, defeating wild card Amir Omarkhanov 6-3, 6-1 on Monday.
Diallo dominated the match, winning 93% of his first serve points (25/27), according to Infosys ATP Statistics, and advanced without facing a break point after just 62 minutes. Diallo, who won his first Tour-level trophy in ‘s-Hertogenbosch earlier this season, will be aiming to build on his success in Almaty, where he will next meet either Ugo Blanchet or James Duckworth.
In other matches on day one, Fabian Marozsan defeated Luca Nardi 7-6(3), 6-3. The PIF ATP Ranking No. 52 bounced back from squandering a 5-3 lead in the first set and now leads the Italian 3-0 in the Lexus ATP head-to-head series. Marossan has 25 wins this year and is the third Hungarian to reach this milestone in a season, following Balazs Taroczy and Marton Fucsovics.
