Spurs chase “one of the best defenders in the PL”

Although Thomas Frank managed to win his first Premier League game as Tottenham Hotspur manager, the club still has work to do before the summer transfer window ends.

He has received support from the board to reach a £55m deal for Mohamed’s Kudus, but ultimately needs further large reinforcements to avoid repeating the 2024/25 campaign.

Lilywhites ended in 17th place the previous year and still managed to win the Europa League, while Dane led them to the Champions League this season.

But if the 51-year-old will succeed in the near future, he will need to improve quality in key areas of the court.

If you want to succeed, it may cost a lot of money, but one of the club’s key deals may have been done in the past few days.

Cristian Romero’s new contract at Tottenham Hotspur

Back in the summer of 2021, the Spurs completed the signing of a loan from Cristian Romero from Italian clothing Atlanta, which made the central defender’s move permanently lasting after 12 months – costing about £42.5 million in the process.

Although his discipline record is often questioned, he has been a key component of the Lilywhites backline, appearing 126 times in the past four years.

The 27-year-old was appointed as club captain last week, highlighting the trust that new owner Frank has in him – understandable given his match against Manchester United in the European final.

The Argentines continue to continue a new four-year contract for the Argentines until the summer of 2029, a move that is arguably one of the best businesses the club has done in this window, an interest from the Spanish giant Atlético Madrid.

However, despite Romero’s new contract, the hierarchy still hopes to add quality in the club’s back row, allowing Frank to further help his top challenge in England’s top flight.

Spurs’ actions against New Romero partners

In recent days, the Spurs have held talks with Manchester City on a potential deal for 20-year-old right-back Rico Lewis, which could offer competition for Pedro Porro.

The British man also received interest from Nottingham Forest, but has confirmed that the young man hopes to stay outside the summer window at Etihad.

However, according to the Daily Mail, he is not the only defender in their sight, and the club is also strongly considering moving to Brentford star Nathan Collins.

Their report claims that the Lilies have been closely monitoring the Irish International, who introduced every minute of the last Premier League campaign.

It also noted that Manchester United and Liverpool also planned a move for the 24-year-old, but given the centre-back’s early appearance as Frank at GTEC, the Spurs can hold the key to any move.

Why the Spurs’ latest goal may be very suitable for Romero

Although Frank oversees two competitive games only as the Masturs Boss, he has shown his versatility in the character and runs in a variety of different systems.

In the UEFA Super Cup final against PSG, Dane changed back to a more familiar defender in Saturday’s victory against Burnley.

However, if the club is to be successful, adapting according to the opposition party is crucial, which is very lacking during the Ange Postecoglou term.

Collins’ move could provide the new boss with the depth he longed for and add another option to the heart of the defense, which could allow the centre-back trio Micky van de ven, Romero and the Irish.

It is unclear how much the Bee Star will set the hierarchy to by the September 1 deadline, but it will be a transfer that will increase the required mass to the defensive force.

When comparing his statistics with Romero’s numbers starting from 2024/25, the 24-year-old managed to outperform the Argentinian in key areas and even ranked high among other defenders in the department.

FBREF said Collins was labeled “one of the best defenders in the Premier League” by journalist Mario Marra, who ranked 97th percentile (2.1) in the 97th percentile (2.1) and 89th percentile won in the air (3.1).

All such numbers are higher than those produced by Romero, which later improved Frank’s quality Frank the Frank’s record of 65 league goals recognized last season.

The Irish also achieved better aerial success last season, while gaining nearly twice per 90 – further highlighting his quality of not having the ball.

However, despite Collins’ lack of the ball, he also demonstrated his own talent, which is crucial in Frank’s system – as the Bees have seen an average of 48% in the Premier League in 2024/25.

Last season, he managed to make more progress passes and seamlessly adapted to the manager’s plan every 90 season as he guided his previous work.

While it is not clear how many Bees are to be separated from the captain, it is a deal that can change the fate of Lily White in the third defensive inning.

If he can copy such numbers from 2024/25, he can prove to be Romero’s ideal partner, which can bring more success to the club in the near future.
