Michael Jordan rookie card for sale at auction for $2.5 million

According to Track and Field Larry Holder of 1986-87, Fleer Michael Jordan signed a rookie card for $2.5 million through the auction house conference game for Pharrell Williams on Thursday.

The price tag makes it the third most expensive Jordanian card sale ever and is also a Jordanian rookie card sale. The card’s minimum bid was set at $2 million, and it received only one bid at that price.
The card was originally sold by Sotheby’s and then removed from the auction in March. A spokesperson at the meeting told Holder The The The Bossigner “decided that he thought it would be more suitable for the card.”
According to the holder, Joopiter’s auction house charged a 25% buyer premium, with the final sale price reaching $2.5 million. The auction house initially estimated the card’s value ranged from $2 million to $3 million.
The largest Jordanian card for sale to date was in June 2024, when the 2003-04 Upper Deck Ultimate Collection Collectimate Game Logoman Patch signature card was sold for $2.928 billion.

However, the Jordan Fleer Rookie Card, which has an overall score of the card itself and the autograph quality that was once publicly sold. The cards sold on Thursday feature 9 cards from PSA (Professional Sports Authenticator) and 10 signature grade of Gem Mint.
If a PSA 10/10 card is sold, the PSA 9/10 rating card sold in Joopiter can set a potential price. Since this card is level 9, the PSA 10/10 version may become the best-selling Jordan card ever made.
The most expensive 1986-87 Fleer Jordan autographed card (PSA rating 8 cards/9 Auto) was sold in March 2024 for $205,000. The cards sold Thursday were one of the nine 1986 Fleer Jordan cards from last year’s 986 Fleer Jordan cards, which were a private collector in a secret signature last year.

According to Joopiter, collectors have established a coordinated relationship with Jordan for nearly five years. The auction house also said the signing took place at Grove XXIII, a private golf club in Jordan in Hobb Bay, Florida.
Jordan played all 82 regular season games with the Chicago Bulls in his rookie season, averaging 28.2 points per game, 6.5 rebounds, 5.9 assists and 2.4 steals on 51.5% shooting percentage.
His Air won the NBA Rookie of the Year Award, became the All-Star team, was the second team in the NBA, and ranked sixth in the MVP vote. He also scored a season-high 49 points in an overtime victory against the Detroit Pistons.
