Chicago Blackhawks give away 2020 first-round pick (17th Overall) Lukas Reichel is a change of scenery. He will join the injury-plagued Vancouver Canucks in exchange for a 2027 fourth-round draft pick.

Reichel’s performance last season was all below his career highs: eight goals, 14 assists and 22 points in 70 games. He averaged 11 minutes and 55 seconds per game with the Blackhawks and had the second-worst record in the NHL. In a five-game sample this season, that usage dropped further, to less than 10 minutes per night.
With forwards Teddy Brugger, Filip Chytil, Niels Hogland and Jonathan Leklimaki out with injuries, Vancouver needs a player to boost the offense – and Reichel is just that. He would provide an interesting presence on the roster and maybe crack the top nine.
According to JFreshHockey’s model, Reichel is a strong zone-in and out player with high-end speed, but creating chances and scoring has always been a challenge. However, he may be able to revive his game again at BC. The 23-year-old forward scored three runs against the St. Louis Blues on Oct. 15, so the flash has been there.
