Panthers’ Brad Marchand scores 1,000th NHL point – The Hockey Writers –

He’s considered one of the biggest pests in the game today, but Brad Marchand’s approach has allowed him to be successful with and without the ball. Marchand reached the 1,000-point milestone in his illustrious NHL career on Thursday with two assists in the Florida Panthers’ 6-3 victory over the Washington Capitals.
Marchand notched his ninth assist of the season on Etu Losstarinen’s empty-net goal with less than two minutes remaining, reaching the 1,000-point mark at home in front of friends and family.
“I hope it’s tonight,” he said on Milestone Assistant. “It’s also great to do at home. No matter how it’s done, it’s fun to be a part of.”
Marchand was traded to the Panthers at the deadline last season and impressed the team’s fans. So far this season, he has 11 goals and 20 points in 16 games without Matthew Tkachuk and Alexander Barkov, and the team really needs leadership and offensive ability.

Overall, Marchand – drafted 71st overall by the Boston Bruins in 2006 – has 435 goals and 1,000 points in 1,116 career regular-season games. On top of that, he scored 66 goals and 158 points in 180 career playoff games while also winning two Stanley Cups.
After Marchand’s landmark night, the 37-year-old swapped jerseys with Capitals superstar Alexander Ovechkin as both players approach the final years of their respective careers.
