I think some of these young Stallions players, honestly, with all this potential, former No. 1 overall draft picks are going to be on this kind of discussion board. Especially if this continues and he does have a lights-out type of season, you’re definitely going to see Connor Bedard start with 10 men throughout the season.
Now remember, players can sign eight-year contracts or eight-year extensions, and RFAs have until September 16 next year to do so. So for a lot of young players, that’s still part of the equation. UFA guys, if they’re looking for an eight-year contract, if you want to rejoin your club, you have until September 30th, sorry, June 30th, I should say, I’m sorry.
But if you’re an RFA, you still need to lock in and take advantage of that extra year before training camp starts, or before next season starts. Starting September 16 or 17 next year, this will disappear. The limit for re-formation is seven, while for new clubs it is six. So, it’s an interesting scenario for a lot of young kids and teams with young stars, like Bedard in Chicago.
